My own spare time spent alone seems to be divided in two categories: Consume stuff and Create stuff. I either consume videos, games and articles or I create books, videos and tweets. The problem is how I feel with both categories: I feel like I’m wasting time watching a TV show online or playing a game, time I could have spent creating a video or writing a book. I even feel guilty about it sometimes, not being productive. Now, to be clear, this applies only when I’m not in school. When that is the case, there is a 3rd category: University stuff creation and consumption. When this comes into play. I feel guilty not being productive when consuming things, I feel guilty not being productive when creating things and I feel annoyed that I have this shit to do and can’t have time to create actually beneficial stuff when I use or create University things.

Here, in Canada, we get pretty cheated when it comes to web video. Almost every thing from the US is unavailable without faking your computer’s location and while there is a fair number of shows available from the Canadian networks, it isn’t parity with the States. In the end, the only people who suffer from this are the legal viewers and the networks themselves. Because there is one unavoidable fact: there are a bunch of people who don’t care if a network’s site has a show or not. It’s unavoidable: if you can’t serve them your content, viewers will find someone who will.

What I don’t like about books in particular is extensive description: Where it takes a couple of pages to describe an area or an emotional state. Sure, it paints a vivid image and there’s probably something about a character that can be said if they are the one narrating but at some point the author should look at their text and say “You know, they should start doing some shit soon.”

Professors can make or break a class. The most boring topics can be made fascinating depending on the person who teaches. But the most incompetent, unmotivated or strict of them can make a class become a real pain.

If you have both Facebook and a lot of work to do, avoid Bejeweled Blitz. While having a 1-minute limit on the good-old jewel-switching game might seem like a great way to spend a little time having fun before returning to your task at hand, what really happens is that it makes you want to play more and more and again and again. To make it worse, they have a version of Blitz integrated into the Bejeweled for iPhone application. How addicting is this game? Let me put it this way: I paid $2.99 for Bejeweled for iPhone just to play Blitz, a free online game. I paid $2.99 for a free game.

I hate reading. Maybe not “hate” but I certainly don’t go out and look for opportunities to do it. The only book series I have ever voluntarily read that wasn’t for school was the Harry Potter series. Even the Robert Langdon/Dan Brown novels that I love, I listened as audiobooks. I prefer writing. I guess I’m like a drug dealer: I’ll gladly sell you the drugs but I won’t use them.
